Located in the northeastern New Territories, Hok Tau is a very small reservoir, which is ox-bow in shape. It is embraced by well-wooded hills and fed by streams from Sha Lo Tung and Ping Shan Chai. Despite its small size, the water body of the reservoir and the shady woodland streams in the adjacent catchments support diverse dragonfly species.

The site is within Pat Sin Leng Country Park.

Disembark at Hok Tau Wai and walk along Hok Tau Road for about 15 - 20 minutes.

The surveys focused on adults and were carried out on sunny/fine and windless days between 09:00 and 15:00. Walking transect count method along a standard route was adopted. All the dragonflies observed along the transect were identified visually, with the aid of a pair of close-focusing binoculars, to species level following Wilson et al. (2004).
